Here comes the Soil Stewards
As a member of the Northeast Washington Soil Health Stewards (SHS), I am excited to be a part of this event in helping to organize it with an amazing team of people from multiple conservations districts. On February 26, 2022, whether you are in Stevens, Ferry, Pend Orielle, Spokane Counties or beyond, I invite you to listen to some of these fantastic presentations. There will also be conversation around the Klingenbert-Vetter farm in Clayton, Washington. It is a farm donated to WSU that will become a community hub of research and education that will be maintained by Stevens County Conservation District. Some quick links to presenters at the event and what the work they are involved in:
Dr. Tarah Sullivan, Assoc. Professor Soil Microbiology, WSU. WA state soil health initiative participant & WSU lead https://css.wsu.edu/tarah-s-sullivan/ she gives a good talk about the connection of the soil microbiome and the human microbiome: https://www.vineyardteam.org/resources/resource-library/soil-conservation-and-water-quality.php?id=794
Mike Nestor, Agronomist Ag Enterprise Supply Inc.- Cover crops and soil health in the Eastern WA https://wheatlife.org/Issues/10_WL_Nov21web.pdf pg 26. I compare Mike to the “Gabe Brown” of NE Washington with his ability to communicate and relate to individuals. He has an amazing wealth of knowledge when it comes to agriculture, from the conventional to regenerative and then to the fringe areas of this space.
